Bay, Rum (Dark) (Pimenta racemosa)
Bay, Rum (Dark) (Pimenta racemosa)

* (Sizes) Bay, Rum (Dark)

Family: Myrtaceae
Origin: Dominican Republic
Process: Steam Distilled-Leaves

Description: This sturdy evergreen shrub or tree is a member of the Myrtle family and known as the West Indian Bay tree. The ancient Greeks considered myrtle sacred to the goddess Aphrodite and used it in festivals. It has a powerful, spicy, sweet aroma with a distinctive clove note. The name bay “rum” comes from the former practice of distilling bay in rum and water. Used extensively in hair tonics and aftershaves.

The essential oil consists mainly of eugenol, myrcene, chavicol, linalol, limonene, among others. Its high eugenol content may irritate the skin and mucus membrances, so use with caution.

Product Application:
Essential oils should never be applied directly on the skin without diluting properly, usually blending with a carrier oil.
