Description:  Sage is a well-known sacred herb used for centuries as it was known as a miracle plant, used to heal just about anything, especially in dental hygiene.  Comes from the Latin root word “salvare” meaning to “heal” or to “save”.  There is also an herbal Sage Tea.  It is an evergreen perennial herb that can grow up to about 32 inches high with a woody base, soft gray, green oval leaves and a mass of blue or violet flowers. It is also known as Garden True Sage, Common Sage, and Dalmation Sage.

The steam distilled essential oil from the leaves and flowers is colorless to pale yellow with a strong, sharp, herbaceous and camphorous aroma.  It’s to be used in low dilutions only as it contains a high amount of thujone.  Avoid in pregnancy and epilepsy.

Its principal constituents consists mainly of thujone (about 42%), cineol, borneol, caryphyllene and other terpenes.

Essential oils should never be applied directly on the skin without diluting properly, usually blending with a carrier oil.
