Description: Helichrysum gymnocephalum, the wild shrubs with aromatic small yellow flowers from Madagascar, is quite a different Helichrysum than the other species known as Helichrysum italicum. Helichrysum gymnocephalum is a wonderful oil for respiratory issues due to its higher 1,8 cineole (Eucalyptol) content.  Steam-distilled, the essential oil aroma is similar to that of Eucalyptus – cooling, camphorous, medicinal, fresh and clean. Great for use in the diffuser for coughs, colds and flu.  Beneficial for immune support and respiratory issues such as bronchitis and sinusitis, as well in blends for muscular aches and pains, muscle spasms, and menstrual cramps.  The use of Helichrysum gymnocephalum against malaria is also being explored.

Just a few properties are mentioned here:  anti-infectious, analgesic, and decongestant. The essential oil contains oxide 1,8-Cineole, ß-pinene, bicyclosesquiphellandrene, γ-curcumene, α-amorphene, and bicyclogermacrene, among others.
